My new love...

As a lot of my friends know, I have always been a runner, I have always loved running. My Dad started me out running when I was 3. I still have a really young memory from when I was 3 or 4 and I remember going on a night run with my Dad and loving it. 30+ years later I still love it but now I have another love, riding my road bike!

Lucky for me, the weather has been crazy in Utah so almost every weekend since I got my bike I have gone on at least 1 ride. I have gone on most of them alone, but I really prefer having a friend with me. I have been going to about 6 spin classes a week which has really helped me when I get out on the road. I also have experienced my first flat and I had no idea how to take off my rear wheel to fix it so luckily my husband rescued me and took me to the bike shop for a lesson. You Tube on the side of the road was not very helpful...

This past weekend I went on a 14 mile ride with one of my dearest friends, Lori. We also did a drive by and stopped at a friends house in Herriman. Apparently we were stinky because we scared off her 10 year old Son, ha! Thanks for the water Heather!

Lori and I, along with some other friends, are going to be riding in our first bike ride in May called Goldilocks. We are doing the 60 mile ride and we are very excited and looking forward to it! Let's hope the weather holds up so we can get some more road time under our belts!

Ride safe!

Weigh-In Day!

Friday is weigh-in day! I weigh-in once a week to keep my self in check and see where I am at. This morning I weighed-in and I didn't lose anything but I didn't gain anything either. I know that I am building muscle and that my clothes feel loose so the scale really doesn't matter that much to me. The scale does keep me going in the right direction, working towards my healthy weight. I would have loved 2 lbs gone this week with all the work I did but sometimes, it just doesn't work that way and I am okay with that because I know that I gave it my all this week and next week I am going to work even harder!

I have been helping some friends with their weight-loss goals and the main thing I want them to get into their heads is to be happy with who they are now and happy with the work they are doing. As long as you are doing what you can everyday, even if the scale does not give you the number that you want, it is okay, focus on the positive. A scale doesn't show you how much fat you replaced with muscle!

Keep working hard, stay positive, and don't give up!

"How do you do it?"

The title of this post is a question I get asked almost every single day. I don't mind getting asked this question, I am happy to answer it, but a lot of times it is not the answer people want to hear. There is no magic pill, no magic diet, just pure willpower that keeps me going.

How do I do it?

I just do it! I don't make excuses, I don't let anything get in my way, including negative thoughts. I think about the big picture, and how I will be around for my hubby, kids, friends and family.
I want to live a long, healthy, happy and productive life. If you have a positive attitude and you realize what you are capable of, then you can do amazing things. Our minds are so powerful and sometimes you just need to ignore the negative thoughts that hold us back and just do it, just get it done and you will be so much happier in the end.

How do I get up every morning at 4:45 am and WHY?

I feel good when I get up and start my morning off with a couple of great workouts. My kids and hubby are in bed until 7:30 or 8:00 am so I get up and get my first 1-2 workouts done before they are even out of bed! Also, if I get these workouts done, then when things come up during my day that I need to take care of I already got a workout done and I can go on with my responsibilities and know I did what I could for the day.

How do I have the energy to sustain so many workouts?

I eat right and I eat a lot! If you see me at the gym you will probably catch me eating an orange, apple or protein bar. I try to eat in between my workouts but I eat things that are good for me that give me natural energy.  I don't use any drugs or energy boosters, these are not necessary if you are taking care of yourself and taking care of your heart. I drink so much water! In spin I drink around 60 oz in a 1 hour class and in my other classes I drink around 30 oz per hour. I carry my water with me everywhere!  I know my limits, my biggest goal other than losing 120 pounds was to not injure myself, and I have been very lucky that the only injury I have had was pulling my left calf muscle and I was able to get that in check very quick. I get a good night sleep. I only sleep about 6 hours at night and I get a 2 hour nap in almost everyday. Sleep is super important but you need to know your body and how much sleep you need. I feel like crap if I sleep 8 solid hours. My body naturally wakes up after 6 hours and I feel so much better if I get up and get going.

What about my family?

My husband and kids are awesome! I get most of my workouts done when they are sleeping or at work and school. In the evening we do sacrifice a little family time so that I can get to the gym but I do make sure that I am spending quality time with my girls and my husband whenever possible. I play with my kids, take them fun places and let them know how much I love them all the time. They know that I am doing this so that I can be here for them and they are learning great habits from my example. When I get home, I spend time with my husband, we stay up a little late but this is our time and it is worth it to me to sacrifice a little sleep so that I can hang out with my Man! I also think that it is good for my husband and kids to have time without me when I am gone at night. They are with me all day so it is good for them to hang out with Daddy and build a relationship with him. Weekends are fun and we do fun things together. We workout at the gym together, go climbing, bike riding, hula hooping, watch movies and play games together.

The biggest thing I wanted to get across with this post today is that you can do it! You can do anything you set your mind to do, you just have to want it and then you have to do it!

"Reaching" goals!

One of my favorite things to do is indoor climbing. This is something that I have done for the last 2 years but I have really struggled with it because of my weight. It is hard to climb in the first place, but add 120 extra pounds in the mix and climbing is a lot harder. Now that I have lost 90 pounds, climbing is a whole new adventure for me. I love that I can get up there on the wall and not be afraid of the equipment failing because of my weight, and I don't burn out as fast either!

I went climbing a few times last week, Saturday with Friends, Monday with my husband and kids, Friday with my kids and a friend and her kids and this Saturday I went with my husband. On Saturday I got 4 climbs in. I was able to climb to the top without stopping and hanging on each of these climbs. This is a huge accomplishment for me. It is so much fun to get up there and solve the wall puzzle and reach the top! I was also able to conquer a fear of a wall with an overhang. These walls freak me out because gravity is working against you and it is a crazy feeling climbing with your back to the ground!

I look forward to many more climbs and reaching many more goals!

What kind of goals do you want to reach?

March Challenge

I am so proud of everyone who took on my February Challenge! I hope you all try to keep last months challenge in the back of your minds and don't stop doing any of the things on that list, keep working on the things you need most to help YOU be a happier YOU!

I hope everyone feels better about themselves and I hope you are all proud of what you have accomplished, I am!

Here is my March Challenge that I posted on Facebook. I have three things I want you focus on this month:

  1. Weigh in day for March is on Friday mornings, so our weigh-in days are March 9th, 16th, 23rd, & 30th.
  2. Water! Keep working your way up to 96 oz of water everyday.
  3. Work on something you can't do now but want to be able to do.
My "something" that I want to be able to do by the end of this month is 100 real push ups. I can do about 30 in a row right now and by April 1st I want to be able to do 100 in a row!

Good luck, be positive and don't give up! You are worth it!

Weigh-In Day!

I am happy to say that I lost 3 pounds! I am now 10 pounds away from 100 pounds and 30 pounds away from my goal.

Even though 3 pounds in 1 month is a small number, it is still a great number in the right direction and I am confident that I lost inches and built muscle last month. I noticed today how toned I am looking on my upper body.

I know that the scale can be frustrating at times but just try to remember that if you are doing what you are supposed to be doing and trying your best, giving it your all, then you should be proud of yourself no matter what the scale says!

Keep up the good work friends and thank you for all your support!
